“Parent’s rights” is as much of a red flag to me as “Family values”. When you examine what people actually mean by these terms it always boils down to the usual “the family is a system of domination and many parents want even more control and violence within it”.
It is very much like when people say they support “State’s rights” (to slavery), as some in the notes have pointed out.
Sometimes it also means the parental right to keep child marriage legal.
SAG-AFTRA is asking cosplayers to not cosplay characters from struck companies. This includes movies that are struck today (like The Barbie Movie) as well as characters that would be struck if they were produced today such as Umbrella academy.
Books are okay. DC and Marvel are okay ONLY if you base your costume off the comic and not the live action. Anime dubs are covered under SAG, so anime that’s been dubbed in the US isn’t okay. Also any anime that’s been produced by Netflix, Prime, etc also not okay.
This is most likely because the actors are paid to promote their work. So if the actors are striking, that promotion that’s being lost is supposed to be a huge bargaining chip. Companies are already trying to reach out to creators for promotions, but since that’s part of the job if the actors, that’s seen as scabbing.

Hollywood Studios’ WGA Strike Endgame Is To Let Writers Go Broke Before Resuming Talks In Fall
Regardless of whether SAG-AFTRA goes on strike this week, the studios have no intention of sitting down with the Writers Guild for several more months.
“I think we’re in for a long strike, and they’re going to let it bleed out,” said one industry veteran intimate with the POV of studio CEOs.
While some dismiss this as just “cynical strike talk,” studio and streamer sources around town confirm the strategy. They also confirm that the plan to grind down the guild has long been in the works for a labor cycle that all sides agree is a game-changer one way or another for Hollywood.
“It’s been agreed to for months, even before the WGA went out,” one executive said. “Nobody wanted a strike, but everybody knew this was make or break.”
Receiving positive feedback from Wall Street since the WGA went on strike May 2, Warner Bros Discovery, Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Paramount and others have become determined to “break the WGA,” as one studio exec blatantly put it.
To do so, the studios and the AMPTP believe that by October most writers will be running out of money after five months on the picket lines and no work.
“The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” a studio executive told Deadline. Acknowledging the cold-as-ice approach, several other sources reiterated the statement. One insider called it “a cruel but necessary evil.”
The studios and streamers’ next think financially strapped writers would go to WGA leadership and demand they restart talks before what could be a very cold Christmas. In that context, the studios and streamers feel they would be in a position to dictate most of the terms of any possible deal.

i really want to emphasize the fact that many of these recent bills aimed at denying trans minors gender-affirming care have special exceptions built in to allow for nonessential surgeries on intersex children. they want to make sure doctors can continue pressuring parents into putting their intersex kids through procedures that have no evidence of benefits and are well known to cause harm (cw on these articles for discussions of intersex medical abuse/trauma).
these bills are not designed to protect children, they’re designed to eradicate sex and gender diversity. they want to force both trans and intersex people into their binary little boxes and it will do immense harm to both groups.

The witch stops. Outside, she hears the thunder of wings.

Last week I made the difficult decision to leave an abusive relationship. I stayed longer than I should because of finances, but now I’m stuck with an unwanted pregnancy. I’m still in school and financially unable to support a child. I asked my parents for help but they are apposed to abortion and are recommending I carry to term but I’m not ready for that. I really need help, mostly for getting to and from the nearest location that I can get a surgical abortion done, as it’s already too late for me to try the pill method. I tried to do the pill method last week but I didn’t make the appointment. At 10 weeks now I’m forced to have a surgical abortion and the nearest location is 4 and a half hours away.
I need help getting there and back since I don’t have a reliable vehicle so I might need to pay a friend to drive me. I also need to pay for some of the cost of the abortion, which is around 700.
